OUR PICK FOR COUPLES
Corner King
~366 ft² · city views
More space and light than a standard king, for very little extra.
BY HYATT · THE GULCH · 12 STOREYS · ABOUT 12 MINUTES' WALK TO BROADWAY

Our verdict
Thompson opened in 2016 as the first new-build lifestyle hotel in Nashville, and it still sets the tone for the Gulch. It is stylish, warm and well run, with Marsh House downstairs and L.A. Jackson on the roof. There is no pool, and the entry rooms are compact, so it suits couples and friends who plan to be out more than in.

“A big hotel that feels like a boutique one, in the neighbourhood that made Nashville stylish.”
Thompson feels polished and warm rather than flashy: brushed brass, rustic wood, custom wallpaper and a compass mosaic in the lobby. Music shows up quietly, with Marshall amps in the rooms instead of guitars on every wall.
The crowd is young and well dressed, and the energy rises through the day. Mornings are coffee at Killebrew; evenings belong to the rooftop, where a DJ plays on some weekends.
Thoughtfully designed, but compact. Ask for a corner.

OUR PICK FOR COUPLES
~366 ft² · city views
More space and light than a standard king, for very little extra.

FOR FRIENDS SHARING
~387 ft² · sleeps four
The roomiest standard layout in the hotel.

FOR A CELEBRATION
~764 ft² · king · city views
A separate living room for pre-drinks before the rooftop.
Also in the collection: Studio Suites (about 571 ft²) and Executive Suites (about 764 ft²). Room sizes are as listed by major booking sites; we confirm the exact layout when we book.
Three venues, all worth knowing about
FOR DINNER
Seafood and Southern cooking with a raw bar and a wine list of over 400 labels. Daily brunch, and $1.50 oysters on weekdays from 5 to 7pm.
AT SUNSET
The top-floor rooftop bar over the Gulch, with craft cocktails, local beers and shareable plates. Over-21s only, with DJs on some weekends.
IN THE MORNING
Lobby coffee shop with seasonal drinks and a pastry counter.
WORTH KNOWING
L.A. Jackson is one of the busiest rooftops in town and is mostly walk-in. Go before sunset, or let us plan around it.
There isn't one.
How it compares: For a pool in the Gulch, the W's WET Deck is a short walk away; downtown, the Four Seasons, The Joseph and the JW all have one.
A fitness centre for guests.
Thompson sits at the heart of the Gulch, surrounded by boutiques, murals and some of the city's best restaurants. Lower Broadway is about 12 minutes' walk, close enough to walk to the honky-tonks, far enough to sleep away from them.
ON THE DOORSTEP
A stylish weekend with a great dinner and a rooftop sunset.
A Gulch base for a birthday weekend that's more cocktails than chaos.
Marsh House alone is worth the stay.
Dogs are welcome (up to two, each up to about 40 lb).
Less suited to: pool lovers (try the W or the JW), anyone wanting a big standard room (The Hermitage or the Conrad), and light sleepers on lower floors, where street noise can carry.
| Hotel | Choose it for | CHOOSE THOMPSON FOR |
|---|---|---|
| W Nashville | A pool deck and a hotel that's the party | A more grown-up Gulch stay and a better restaurant |
| The Joseph | A rooftop pool, a spa and Yolan | The Gulch on your doorstep and a buzzier rooftop bar |
| Four Seasons | Larger rooms, river views and a pool | Neighbourhood character and a lower rate |
No. It has a rooftop bar, L.A. Jackson, but no pool. The W, in the Gulch, has the nearest big pool deck.
Thompson's top-floor rooftop bar, with indoor and outdoor seating over the Gulch. It is over-21s only and mostly walk-in.
Entry kings are about 312 ft². Corner and neighbourhood rooms are about 355–387 ft², and suites run to about 764 ft².
